What it does
QuillBot rewrites texts and offers several modes for this, such as more formal, shorter or more fluent. It also includes a grammar checker for several languages (including German and English), a summariser, a translator, an AI detector and a citation generator. Extensions for Chrome, Edge and Safari, a Word add-in, desktop apps for macOS and Windows and keyboard apps for iOS and Android bring the tools into other programs.
Who it suits
Anyone who wants to quickly polish, shorten or adjust the tone of existing texts, such as emails, website copy or reports. The tool is strongest with English texts; German is supported for proofreading and paraphrasing.
Data protection for businesses
QuillBot belongs to Learneo, Inc. in San Francisco. Data may be transferred to the USA and India, safeguarded by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. The vendor does not mention an EU data hosting option, nor a data processing agreement you can sign. Inputs are stored by default and may be used to train the vendor’s own models; in the browser extension you can turn off storage and training under “Data and Privacy”. The Team plan offers an admin panel, usage reports and a shared style guide; the vendor does not clearly state whether inputs are used for training there.
Limits
The free plan clearly limits text length and modes. Rewrites can shift the meaning or water down technical terms, so proofreading remains necessary. The AI detector’s verdict is not reliable proof.
