ChatGPT

The best-known AI assistant: writes, summarises, analyses files and images and searches the web.

What it does

For many people, ChatGPT is where working with AI begins. You ask a question or describe a task and the assistant replies in conversation. Typical uses: drafting emails and copy, summarising long documents, analysing spreadsheets and PDFs, describing or generating images and looking up current information through web search. On top come custom assistants with fixed instructions (“GPTs”) and an agent mode that works through multi-step tasks on its own.

Who it suits

Anyone looking for a versatile all-rounder, from sole traders to teams. People who work a lot with office files or dictate on the go via the app benefit most.

Data protection for businesses

In the personal plans (free and Plus), chats are used for training by default; you can switch this off under “Data controls”. Business and Enterprise do not use inputs for training, and business customers get a data processing agreement. OpenAI offers data storage in Europe only for Enterprise, education and the API. For customer data at work, use a business plan, not a personal account.

Limits

The strongest models and higher usage limits require a paid plan. Like any language model, ChatGPT can make convincing-sounding mistakes; check figures, quotes and legal questions.
