Gemini Notebook
Google’s research assistant (formerly NotebookLM) that answers only from your own documents – with citations.
What it does
You create a notebook and add sources: PDFs, Google Docs and Slides, web pages, YouTube videos or audio files. The assistant answers questions based only on that material and shows the passage in the original for every statement. From your documents it creates summaries, flashcards, mind maps and spoken overviews in a podcast style. The tool was called NotebookLM until 2026.
Who it suits
Getting to grips with a topic, preparing workshops or working through extensive tenders and studies – wherever answers should come from specific documents rather than the web.
Data protection for businesses
With a Google Workspace account, Google does not use uploaded content for training and the Workspace agreements apply. The rules for personal Google accounts are less clear-cut, so confidential documents belong in a Workspace account.
Limits
The number of notebooks and sources is capped per plan, copy-protected PDFs cause problems and the mobile app is still young.
