Lexware Office
Cloud accounting for small businesses that reads receipts with AI, matches payments and learns booking suggestions from your entries.
What it does
Lexware Office is accounting software that runs in the browser and as an app. You upload receipts by phone photo, email, cloud storage or file upload. Automatic content recognition reads out the document type, business partner, document number, date, due date and amount. The software matches payments from connected bank accounts, credit cards and PayPal to the right receipts and suggests booking categories that learn from your previous entries. It also covers quotes, e-invoices (XRechnung, ZUGFeRD), payment reminders, VAT pre-returns via ELSTER and a DATEV interface for your tax advisor.
Who it suits
Self-employed people, freelancers and small companies, from sole proprietors to GmbHs, who want to handle receipts and invoices themselves without accounting expertise and work closely with their tax advisor.
Data protection for businesses
Data is stored in data centres in the Frankfurt am Main area. The data processing agreement with Haufe Service Center GmbH applies automatically with the subscription. However, it also lists US-based sub-processors such as Intercom and AWS; these transfers are covered by adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses. Under the agreement, data may also be processed to analyse and improve the service. The vendor does not say whether your data is used to train AI models or whether you can turn this off. The automation is included in all plans from S to XL; there is no separate business plan.
Limits
The software is built around German tax law. Personalised booking suggestions work only with business bank accounts, and you need to check them yourself. Payroll costs extra, and API access is available only in the XL plan.
