DATEV
AI features in the Nuremberg-based accounting software DATEV, led by DATEV Copilot for drafting, document analysis and research in tax firms.
What it does
The Nuremberg-based cooperative DATEV is building AI into many of its practice programs; this entry mainly refers to DATEV Copilot in MyDATEV, available since May 2026. It drafts emails and client letters from notes or voice input, condenses and translates texts and summarises documents (PDF, DOCX, ODT, TXT, RTF) of up to 1,000 pages. A prompt library stores frequent instructions. Optional add-ons are web search, the DATEV service assistant and the separately licensed expert research tool LEXchat. Further AI sits in the automation services for invoices and bank transactions and in a tax objection generator.
Who it suits
Tax and audit firms already using DATEV. According to DATEV, Copilot is currently available exclusively to tax advisers and auditors, not to companies.
Data protection for businesses
DATEV processes uploaded data in its own area on Microsoft Azure in a European data centre. According to DATEV, neither Microsoft nor OpenAI uses inputs for training; there is nothing to switch off. Web search has to be enabled separately; it sends queries to Microsoft Bing, where only Microsoft’s privacy terms apply, so keep confidential details out. You conclude the data processing agreement with DATEV online.
Limits
Copilot cannot analyse spreadsheets, Excel files, financial reports (BWAs) or PDFs containing images. Without web search or LEXchat, its knowledge extends to September 2024. Usage limits apply, and professional decisions remain yours.
