AI Summary Helper
Browser extension from Germany that summarises articles, PDFs and YouTube videos using your own API key or a local model.
What it does
AI Summary Helper summarises web articles, PDFs and YouTube videos in 41 languages and shows the result in the browser’s side panel. It answers follow-up questions and points to the matching passage. A research mode extracts design, sample and funding details from studies and builds citations. It also offers an RSS reader, highlights, a local archive and export to Markdown or Obsidian. For the model, you use your own key for OpenAI, Gemini, Mistral or DeepSeek, a local model via Ollama, or the developer’s cloud service.
Who it suits
Anyone who reads a lot of specialist articles, studies or industry news and already uses an API key or Ollama. The source code is available on GitHub under the MIT licence.
Data protection for businesses
Your archive, settings and keys stay in the browser. Page content goes directly to the provider you choose; with Ollama it never leaves your machine. The cloud service runs on an IONOS server in Germany and forwards requests to OpenRouter, so data may be processed outside the EU. Whether inputs are used for training depends on the model provider. The vendor does not mention a data processing agreement and offers no business plans.
Limits
A one-person project without team or admin features. Only three Kindle sends are free. There is no iOS app yet. Summaries can contain errors.
