AI integration internship: chatbots and workflows (m/f/d)

What it’s about

Between “we should really do something with AI” and a chatbot that reliably answers inquiries every single day lies a lot of craft: prompts, interfaces, databases, testing, and the question of what happens when the model gets it wrong. In this internship you learn exactly that craft – not on toy examples, but on projects clients actually use.

vona is a web agency from Leipzig, remote-first, with clients across the German-speaking countries, from trade businesses to established brands. AI integration, development, design and SEO work together as one team, and we build things so they’re still maintainable two years from now.

You can see what such a project looks like in the automated quote generation for an event and catering business: an AI chatbot built in PHP and JavaScript on the OpenAI API asks for all the necessary details, and a middleware turns them into the right quote as a PDF. Instead of up to 120 minutes, it now takes just under 3 minutes from the first message to delivery. We rely on workflows like this internally too, for example for our AI Weekly Review, which a Python workflow drafts with Claude every week and a person checks before it’s published.

Your tasks

• Help build chatbots and assistants, from conversation design and prompts to connecting them with a store, CRM or database.
• Build workflows in n8n, Make or Python that pass data between systems and language models such as Claude, GPT or Gemini.
• Test solutions against real example cases, find weak spots and document when a person needs to take over.
• Support setting up knowledge bases for RAG approaches, for example with LangChain or LlamaIndex.
• Document what you build so that clients and the team can follow it later.
• If you’re interested, contribute to our in-house tools too, such as the macOS app we use to run our website.

What you bring

• Current studies in computer science, business informatics, media informatics or a similar field – career changers with a technical background are welcome too
• First programming experience in Python, JavaScript or PHP
• Hands-on experience with ChatGPT, Claude or other language models, ideally beyond just chatting
• A structured way of working and a willingness to ask rather than guess
• Good German, as you’ll be working on projects for clients in German-speaking countries

Nice to have, not a must: first workflows in n8n or Zapier, experience with REST APIs or SQL databases such as MariaDB or PostgreSQL.
