Chat assistant and API for Z.ai's GLM language models, which are available with open weights and built for coding and agent tasks.
What it does
Z.ai is the chat interface for the vendor’s GLM language models. You ask questions, have texts drafted or code written; the chat currently runs on GLM-5.3-Flash. Through the API, the flagship model GLM-5.3 handles up to one million tokens of context. It reasons before every answer and supports function calling and structured JSON output. With the GLM Coding Plan you use the models in coding tools such as Claude Code, Cline or OpenCode. Models such as GLM-5.2 are available with open weights under the MIT licence and can run on your own hardware.
Who it suits
Development teams looking for a cheaper alternative to the big US models for coding and agent tasks. Also anyone who wants to try an open model before deploying it on their own infrastructure.
Data protection for businesses
The contracting party is a company in Singapore, where data is generally processed as well. The vendor does not mention EU data hosting. According to its terms, it may use chat content to improve its services. There is no setting to switch this off; you can only object by email. Content sent through the API is not used for training without your explicit consent, and a data processing agreement is part of the API terms. For confidential data, the API or self-hosting the open models is a better fit than the chat.
Limits
GLM-5.3 currently accepts text only. The privacy policy does not explicitly mention the GDPR. Coding Plan subscriptions are non-refundable and come with quotas per five hours and per week. Self-hosting the large model requires very powerful hardware.
