Free chat assistant from Alibaba built on the Qwen models, which are also available as open weights for running on your own hardware.
What it does
Qwen Chat is the chat interface for Alibaba’s Qwen language models. You ask questions, have texts drafted or summarised and can use voice and video features. A memory feature keeps details from earlier conversations. The desktop app can work with emails, screenshots and files on your screen. Many Qwen models are also released as open weights under the Apache 2.0 licence. You can run them on your own hardware with tools such as Ollama, LM Studio or vLLM.
Who it suits
Anyone who wants to try a free all-round assistant or test Qwen models before running them in-house. Development teams can integrate the models through the Alibaba Cloud Model Studio API or host them on their own servers.
Data protection for businesses
Qwen Chat stores data in Singapore on Alibaba Cloud servers. According to the privacy policy, the vendor may use de-identified inputs and feedback for training. You can opt out by emailing privacy@qwen.com, but your feedback is still used afterwards. The vendor does not mention a data processing agreement or a business plan for Qwen Chat. If you need data to stay in Europe, use the API in the Frankfurt region with the EU deployment scope. For Model Studio, Alibaba Cloud says it does not use customer data for training.
Limits
The free chat interface is not suitable for confidential content. The vendor does not publish fixed usage limits for Qwen Chat. In the Frankfurt region, the API offers neither batch processing nor fine-tuning. If you want full control over your data, run the open models yourself.
