Grok

What it does

Grok is xAI’s chat assistant. You ask questions, have it draft texts or think through problems, and upload files such as PDFs, spreadsheets, images, code or audio for analysis. Grok Imagine creates images and videos, and you can also talk to Grok by voice. Connectors give Grok access to email, files and calendar during a conversation; in the Business plan, for example, to Google Drive, where your existing sharing permissions apply.

Who it suits

Individuals and teams looking for an all-round assistant with image and video generation in one subscription. Developers can build the models into their own applications via the API.

Data protection for businesses

In the personal plans, xAI may use your prompts and the responses for training. You can switch this off in the app under Settings > Data Controls > “Improve the model”, and on grok.com under Settings > Data. Alternatively, use Private Chat, which is excluded from training and deleted after 30 days. In Grok Business and Grok Enterprise, xAI does not train on your data; Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM and an isolated option with customer-managed keys. xAI provides a data processing agreement for business customers. The vendor does not mention EU data hosting; via the API, processing can only be pinned to the USA.

Limits

Free use is limited; paid plans share one weekly usage pool across all features. Answers can be wrong and should be checked before use. For confidential company data, only the business plans are a sensible choice.
