Google AI Studio

Free Google web workspace for testing Gemini models, creating API keys and building small AI apps from a prompt.

What it does

Google AI Studio is a web interface where you try out the Gemini models directly in the browser. You test prompts and chats, set system instructions, adjust model parameters and switch on tools such as structured output, function calling, code execution or grounding with Google Search and Maps. With “Get code” you turn a finished prompt into code, and you create API keys for the Gemini API in the same place. In Build mode you describe an app in plain words and Gemini writes the code; the result can be deployed to Cloud Run, synced with GitHub or downloaded as a ZIP.

Who it suits

Developers and agencies who want to test Gemini quickly or build small AI prototypes before integrating the API into their own products.

Data protection for businesses

According to the terms, in the EU, EEA, Switzerland and the UK the rules for paid services also apply to free use: prompts and responses are not used for training but are logged for a limited time to detect abuse. Outside these regions, Google uses free-tier input to improve its products, partly with human review. Paid services are covered by Google’s data processing addendum. Google does not commit to keeping AI Studio data in Europe; for enterprise contracts and guaranteed zero data retention, Google points to Vertex AI on Google Cloud.

Limits

Users must be 18 or older. The free tier has rate limits and does not include every model; the Batch API and context caching are paid-only. You need to check generated code and answers yourself.
