Dragon Medical One

Microsoft's cloud speech recognition for clinicians who dictate findings and doctor's letters straight into the patient record or hospital system.

What it does

Dragon Medical One turns dictation into text in real time and writes it directly into whichever program holds the cursor – such as the patient record, the hospital system or Word. Recognition runs in the cloud; you don’t need to train a voice profile first, as accent and microphone are calibrated automatically. Voice commands format, correct and navigate the text. Frequently used text blocks can be saved as AutoTexts and inserted with a short command. The PowerMic Mobile app turns your smartphone into a microphone.

Who it suits

Hospitals, medical care centres and practices that want to produce findings, doctor’s letters and care documentation by voice. The software also runs in Citrix, RDS and Omnissa environments and on thin clients.

Data protection for businesses

According to Microsoft’s documentation, there is a dedicated regional data centre for Germany, and in Europe also for France, Switzerland and the UK. The vendor’s public product pages mention neither a data processing agreement nor whether dictations are used for training; clarify both with Microsoft or the reseller.

Limits

The desktop application runs only on Windows 10 or later and needs a stable internet connection. It does not update automatically, so you install new versions yourself. More advanced AI features such as automatic documentation of patient conversations are offered in the separate product Dragon Copilot. Review the recognised text before sign-off.
