Devin
Autonomous coding agent from Cognition that writes and tests code and submits it as pull requests – via web, desktop app or Slack.
What it does
Devin is a coding agent from Cognition that handles tasks largely on its own: it gets to know a codebase, writes changes, tests them and submits them as a pull request. To do so, it starts its own virtual machines running Linux, Windows or macOS and also checks results in a browser. Larger tasks are split across several cloud agents. You work with it through the web, the desktop app (formerly Windsurf), the command line or by tagging @Devin in Slack and Microsoft Teams; GitHub, Jira and Linear can be connected. Scheduled workflows and reactions to error alerts are possible too.
Who it suits
Development teams that want to hand off well-defined tasks such as bug fixes, migrations, tests or code reviews and then check the results themselves.
Data protection for businesses
By default, Cognition may use your data for training. On paid plans you switch this off under “Data Controls”; on the Teams plan only an admin can do so; the free plan has no such option. On the Enterprise plan there is no training without written consent, plus SSO and an isolated deployment in a dedicated VPC. Processing takes place mainly in the US on Azure, AWS and Google Cloud; the vendor does not mention EU data hosting. A data processing agreement with standard contractual clauses is available.
Limits
Usage is limited by quotas, which are tight on the free plan. Changes made by the agent need human review before they go live. Cognition does not publish fixed prices for Enterprise.
