AutoGPT
Platform for AI agents that take over recurring tasks – as a cloud subscription or self-hosted from the source code.
What it does
AutoGPT was one of the first autonomous AI agent projects in 2023 and is now a platform for building and running such agents. In the cloud version you describe a task in plain language; a coordinating agent hands it to specialised agents, for example for content or sales. Alternatively, you assemble workflows from blocks in a visual editor, schedule them and connect apps such as Google Drive or WordPress. You can use models from several providers and set budgets and approvals per agent.
Who it suits
Tech-savvy users and developers who want to experiment with AI agents or run their own agent platform. Self-hosting requires Docker and some experience with servers.
Data protection for businesses
The cloud is run by a British company under UK GDPR; it does not name server locations, and transfers abroad rely on standard contractual clauses. The vendor does not offer EU data hosting. The vendor does not mention a data processing agreement. On training, the privacy policy only states that Google Workspace data is excluded; it says nothing about other inputs. A Team plan is announced, Enterprise is available on request. Self-hosting gives you full control, and with Ollama you can avoid external model providers entirely.
Limits
The cloud terms of use permit only personal, non-commercial use. Workflows cost extra credits. The platform code is under the Polyform Shield licence, which forbids reselling it as a competing service.
