LANAKILA Media App: photos and videos straight to the team.

For LANAKILA, the Leipzig sports brand of Sylvia Michalk, we built a native app for iPhone and iPad that lets athletes send photos and videos straight to the team – without an account, even for 3 GB videos, in the background and resumable. A person reviews every submission first.

Project for LANAKILA, the Leipzig sports brand of vona owner Sylvia Michalk

  • Native iOS app
  • iPhone & iPad
  • Swift
  • SwiftUI
  • Custom middleware
  • S3 Garage
  • Background upload
3 GB
per file, up to 500 photos and videos at once
No account
enter name, email and consent once – done
Every submission
is reviewed by a person on the team first – nothing is published automatically

01 · Starting point

Photos and videos from athletes are valuable to LANAKILA – from training to race day. But large videos can hardly be sent by messenger or email, and later use requires clear consent. The goal was a simple, privacy-friendly way from the smartphone straight to the team.

02 · Solution

A native app in Swift and SwiftUI, without third-party libraries. For senders, one tap on the big circle is enough: select photos and videos and the upload starts right away. Large videos are transferred in parts, keep running in the background and resume at the same point after an interruption. Under “Sent”, each file shows whether it is under review, approved or not used. Invitation links open the app directly for campaigns and events.

For the team, there is the media pool: filter and search submissions, approve, reject, download or delete in the detail view. An approval sends the sender a notification; Face ID locks the pool when leaving the app.

Behind it are a custom middleware that issues upload URLs and controls approvals, and a purpose-built S3-compatible object store (Garage) on our own server. The recordings go straight into storage via time-limited URLs and stay within our own infrastructure.

03 · Result

One way for photos and videos – from the iPhone into the media pool, without an account and without file-size worries. The app does not access the photo library but only sees what is selected; the consent text is in the app with a version number and can be withdrawn with a switch. No ads, no third-party analytics, no in-app purchases. As of 10/2026, the app is in Apple's TestFlight phase.

04 · Workflow

  1. Custom middleware: Time-limited upload URLs, Submissions, approvals, notifications, Limits and texts from the server, No analytics tools
  2. FROM IPHONE TO MEDIA POOL: Select (photos and videos, one tap) → Upload (in parts, in the background, resumable) → S3 Garage (own object store on our own server) → Media pool (a person reviews: approve or reject) → Notification (the approval reaches the sender)
  3. INVITATION LINKS: Invitation link (opens the app directly) → Quota (what it is for and how much is left)
One tap and photos and videos are on their way: the custom middleware issues time-limited upload URLs, and the recordings go in parts and in the background straight into our own object store (S3 Garage). In the media pool, a person on the team reviews every submission first and approves or rejects it; an approval reaches the sender as a notification. Invitation links open the app directly for campaigns and events.
