Flutter app development internship (m/f/d)
Spend your internship building Flutter apps for iOS and Android from one codebase – with online store APIs, push notifications and QR scanning.
What it’s about
When a business moves its processes into an app, iPhones and Android devices usually end up being used side by side. Flutter gives you one shared codebase that looks good and behaves the same on both systems. In this internship you will help build such apps for companies that actually use them.
vona is a web agency from Leipzig with clients across German-speaking countries: small and mid-sized companies, the Mittelstand and trades, startups and established brands. AI integration, web and app development, design, and SEO & GEO all come from one team.
One example is the project One app instead of five workarounds: a sportswear manufacturer coordinated orders, courier and warehouse across two store backends, WhatsApp and phone calls. Today those five process gaps run through a single app with middleware, role-based push notifications and a QR scanner; a sale at a trade show shows up in the online store’s inventory in under a second. That app is built natively for iOS. Whether we go native or use Flutter is decided per project – Flutter is the choice when an app has to run on both. More under app development.
Your tasks
- Develop screens and flows in Flutter and Dart for iOS and Android from the same codebase.
- Connect interfaces such as middleware in PHP or Node.js, online store APIs or Firebase.
- Build typical app features: sign-in with roles, push notifications, camera and QR scanning, offline caching.
- Test on real devices on both platforms and spot where iOS and Android still behave differently.
- Help prepare builds in Xcode and Android Studio for testing and the stores.
- Use AI tools such as Claude Code or Gemini while programming, and check their suggestions before they go into the code.
What you bring
- You are studying computer science, media informatics or something similar.
- You have worked with Flutter or another app framework before, for example in a university project or a small app of your own.
- You understand how an app talks to an API and can read JSON.
- You think about the people using the app – often on the move, short on time and sometimes wearing gloves.
- Good German skills – our clients are based in German-speaking countries.
Nice to have, but not a must: experience with state management in Flutter (such as Riverpod or Bloc), with Firebase, or with publishing to the App Store or Google Play.
What we offer
- You work on apps for real clients, with real requirements and real users.
- You have a fixed point of contact and regular check-ins where we sort out your questions and next steps.
- For your work you have access to current AI tools such as Claude, Claude Code and Gemini.
- Your hours are flexible, and you work hybrid – in Leipzig and from home.
- If the internship goes well, it can continue, for example as a working student role or a follow-up project. That isn’t a promise, but it is a realistic possibility.
How to apply
Just fill in the form at the bottom of this page and tell us in a few sentences who you are, what you study and which app you have built or helped build. A link to GitHub, a store listing, LinkedIn or your CV is all we need. No cover letter clichés required. We usually reply within a week. Feel free to apply even if you don’t tick every box.
