Freelance AI image generation for product images (m/f/d)

Work with vona as a freelancer on prompts and image workflows that give online stores new product images in hours instead of weeks – without a photo shoot.

What it’s about

Generating an AI image that looks good at first glance is easy. A hundred product images in which fabric, color and cut are exactly right and that still look like one consistent set are a very different job. For that, we are looking for freelancers with a good eye and hands-on experience in AI image generation. The collaboration is 100% remote, from Germany, Austria or Switzerland, starting from 12 November 2026.

The role is with vona, a Leipzig web agency that works mostly remotely for clients across the German-speaking countries. AI integration, web and app development, design, and SEO and GEO sit in one team, and AI is a tool for us, not an effect. We work for small and mid-sized businesses, mid-market companies, startups and established brands.

A project for a fashion online store shows what you would be working on: AI product images instead of photo shoots. A custom-built pipeline uses Nano Banana Pro to generate new images from reference photos of the products. The prompts are stored in a database and can be adjusted by collection, season or campaign without touching the code. Since then, not a single shoot has been needed for new product images, and getting from collection briefing to finished image takes hours instead of weeks.

Your tasks

  • Develop prompt strategies for product images: describe image style, lighting, background and perspective so that results stay consistent across an entire collection.
  • Select and prepare reference images so that details such as material, pattern and fit are preserved in the generated image.
  • Maintain system and user prompts for collections, seasons and campaigns, and keep track of which variants have proven themselves.
  • Review generated images before approval for errors such as wrong colors, distorted hands or invented details, and define review criteria for the team.
  • Test new image models against the existing workflows and tell us honestly whether switching is worth it.

What you bring

  • Demonstrable experience in AI image generation, ideally for products, fashion or e-commerce.
  • A trained eye for composition, color and light, for example from photography, image editing or design.
  • A systematic way of working: you document prompts and results so that others can follow and reuse them.
  • Confidence in a common image editing program for finishing touches and quality checks.
  • Communication in German or English.
  • Freelance status, based in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

Nice to have, but not required: experience with Nano Banana, a basic understanding of image APIs and automated workflows, a portfolio on Behance or Dribbble.

What we offer

  • Work on real online stores with real collections whose images end up actually selling products.
  • A dedicated contact person at vona and regular check-ins on style, approvals and schedule.
  • Access to current image and language models for your work, including Nano Banana, Gemini, Claude and ChatGPT.
  • Flexible hours depending on the workload; you work from home or wherever your setup is.
  • If the results are right, the prospect of further projects and a longer collaboration – possible, but not promised.

How to apply

Use the form at the bottom of this page to tell us who you are and what image work you have done so far. A link to your portfolio tells us the most, whether on Behance, Dribbble or your own website, ideally with a few AI-generated product images. We don’t need a formal cover letter. You’ll usually get a reply within a week. Feel free to apply even if you don’t tick every box.
